Rewriting Tomorrow

Lead with love,

Purpose,

And

Action.

As we move forward with each day in times of change and growth, we must remember that our daily practices must have purpose and action.

As Rachel Cargle wrote,

“Meditate AND call your senator.

Go to you yoga AND got to vote

Breathe deeply AND donate to causes that matter.

Go on a retreat AND go support small businesses

Enjoy your essential oils AND check people on their bulls*it in the community.”

Grab an Acai Bowl and join Fit Bar’s #BetheChange5k, where all proceeds go directly to the Black Lives Matter Foundation. No Rachel didn’t say that, but, I have a feeling if she knew how good our bowls were and about this event she just might.

We are seeing Communities and people from all over the world come together to #speakup and #takeaction in the continued fight to re-structure a broken system.

For some, the starting point has been self-educating and setting the intention to be more mindful.  For others it has sparked action to change, vote, donate, or directly get involved to fight racism.

If you are still looking to find your voice and how you can offer support to the communities and people that need it the most right now, click here to see a list of 75 things you can do to jumpstart your action.

Some immediate action steps you can take include:

  1. Google whether your local police department currently outfits all on-duty police officers with a body-worn camera and requires that the body worn camera be turned on when officers respond to a police call. If they don’t, write to your city or town government representative and police chief to advocate for it.  The racial make-up of your town doesn’t matter—This need to be standard everywhere. Multiply your voice by soliciting others to advocate as well, writing on social media about it, writing op-eds, etc.

  2. Donate to anti-white supremacy work such as your local Black Lives Matter Chapter, the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, the NAACP, Southern Poverty Law Center, United Negro College Fund, Black Yourth Project 100, Color of Change, The Sentencing Project, Families Against Mandatory Minimums, A New Way of Life, and Dream Defenders. Join some of these list-serve and take action as their emails dictate.

  3. Partner with businesses in your community fighting for change. It’s important to not lose momentum and stay focused! Partnering with Foundations and Businesses will help guide you with staying actively present and help keep pushing the movement forward.

We know that fighting racism and achieving racial justice is a marathon, not a sprint. And while it will take us years to undo both the systemic racism in place and our conditioned minds that have given acceptance to a system that clearly does not serve all people, equally; we have to remember to take action steps daily.

Those action steps will become part of our daily practices and soon, habits.

Not once, twice, or three times, but EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

And only our habits as a whole will help us rewrite a better tomorrow.

The Time is Now

CHANGE is COMING! ...but, we all know it won’t be easy to undo 400 years of oppression, nor will it be easy to love those that are filled with hate, but we must bridge the gap with meaningful conversations.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

We must #BeTheChange we want to see.

We can unlearn how to hate.

We can learn to lead with LOVE, always!

We are filled with hope that our humanity will come together to conquer the ugly injustices, so that we can truly show our brothers and sisters that #BlackLivesMatter today, and every day! There’s no going back. We refuse to go back, the only way is forward; facing head on the obstacles of oppression and systemic racism.

We are proud to be a Black and Brown family owned small business, and we STAND with our FAMILY, today and every day!

As these protests begin to lose steam, we ask you to stay strong, and stay committed to being a part of the CHANGE that needs to happen.

So, we humbly ask each and every one of you to join us on Juneteenth (Freedom Day) for our Inaugural ‘Be The Change’ Virtual 5k.

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, we need you!

Donate today, and join the MOVEMENT.

Whether you walk, run, or crawl, let’s collectively MOVE as ONE! After all, that’s how all great movements start, with one step forward!

CHANGE starts within. Let the real work commence. 🖤✊🏽 #lovewins

Straight Outta the Hive!

With all this killer hornet talk, all I can think about are the bees and the amazing product they make. Honey. We all know it. It’s been used since the beginning of time. However, do we knowwww about how fantastic honey actually is?! Bees have produced honey the same way, and have not had to evolve due to their production style just working. Now that’s a flawless business plan.

To understand honey, lets dive into how it is made. Bees collect flower nectar from on average two million flowers which gets broken down into simple sugars inside the honeycomb to create one pound of honey.  The iconic hexagonal shape of honeycombs and constant fanning of bees wings cause evaporation which creates scrumptious liquid honey. On average, bees produce 2-5 pounds of honey in the hive per day. HOWEVER, the average bee will make only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. Talk about teamwork!

Color and flavor vary by where nectar is collected. For instance, honey made from orange blossoms or lavender tends to be lighter in color whereas honey from wildflower tends to have a darker, amber color. There are slight variants in nutritional factors of honey depending on where the nectar is collected and what type of flowers it is from.

According to, Abbott, Charles Nash (1881), British Bee Journal & Bee-keepers Adviser (as a honey/bee nerd you surely know this Bee-Bible) hives produce on average 65 pounds of surplus honey per year! Beekeepers harvest the excess honey, scrape off remaining wax or other particles, bottle it and send it off to arrive in your kitchen!

It is a natural sweetener, sore throat soother, and energizer. Honey contains a wide array of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. Honey is chalk full of flavonoids and phenolic acids, which act as antioxidants boosting immunity and promoting anti-aging, which is why it is also found in various natural skincare products! (Check out Farmacy Beauty for amazingggg ethically produced honey based skincare). Honey is used in many ayurvedic practices for wound healing, and soothing properties topically and internally.
