The process of creating, perfecting, and promoting new menu items is a long process and one that takes much more planning than you would think. I am more of a last minute throw it all together and hope for the best kind of girl but that doesn’t always (almost never) work, so creating new items for Fit Bar has been so fun and such a positive learning experience.
Going through the steps starting with creating, is typically the most fun because although it is a lot of trial and error, it brings out my creative and experimental side so I get to learn what works and what doesn’t. Our brand new product… Power Bites, were so fun because I was able to pick flavor combinations, texture, and most importantly, the nutrients that go into them. Perfecting the product takes a little more time because you may have a certain flavor profile you are going for and say that you love them, when you let people try them or in my scenario have the cafe crew sample them, you can get a lot of feedback which then leads to more tweaks. Feedback is actually the best and SO helpful because other people typically notice the small things that you don’t recognize in the moment, for example an extra ½ teaspoon of vanilla, or an extra scoop of protein, whatever it may be it is usually the right call and leads to perfecting the product. Sometimes after sampling you realize you need to throw out the whole batch and start again because you win some and you lose some in the kitchen. Promoting new products is in my opinion the most difficult yet important part because it determines how well the item will sell and brainstorming how to get the message out there. Usually adding the item to our online menu through our website is the most effective way because our customers can read everything that we have while they’re browsing and also we are able to file it under a “hot new item” tab or something that can grab attention. Posters, signs, and word of mouth is the next best thing to catch the eye while also getting straight to the point. A combination or all of these tips, tricks, and ideas is typically part of Fit Bar’s new item process and we find provides the best results. But hey enough about the details, let’s get to the good part… the HOT NEW ITEM!
We have combined a variety of nutritious ingredients to create the perfect ball with no added refined sugars, refined carbs, along with being gluten free, and vegan! The dates make add the perfect amount of sweetness and soft texture, the almond flour and almond slices provide a nutty flavor while binding everything together, and the plant-based protein adds a natural sweetness and an extra couple grams of protein which is always a good thing! We have three different flavor options including chocolate chip cookie dough made with cacao nibs, double chocolate made with raw cacao powder and a few walnuts, and lastly chocolate peppermint also made with raw cacao powder and peppermint extract. You can’t go wrong with any of these flavors because they are all delicious!! Power Bites are designed to be frozen and taken out right before you want to enjoy them so that they hold their texture.
All three flavors are available at our West Seattle and Renton cafe, and if you buy more than one at a time we offer an awesome discount! A protein packed, low sugar, vegan, snack on the go.. What more could you possibly want?! Check out our website and social media @fitbarcafe for more details, discounts, promos, and much more!
