The Month of Love

For some, February is one of the best months of the year, a time to show appreciation for those around you and celebrate love.

But for others it is a dreaded reminder of how single you are - on the plus side you can eat as many heart shaped Reese’s that you want without any judgement! Either way there is always going to be conflicting feelings and outrageous expectations so how about this year we treat Valentine’s Day a little differently.

Let’s show OURSELVES some love because you know what they say, “you can’t love someone else unless you love yourself first.” I definitely pulled that line from some cheesy Rom Com I’ve seen over the years so please don’t judge, but do try and find the real message behind it.

Tapping into self love can be extremely difficult especially when you feel like you don’t deserve it, but I hope after reading this post, you start to grasp the idea that you always deserve love in some way or another.

I encourage you to start off by diving into what self love looks like to YOU because it can be different for everyone.

My form of self love includes activities that not only bring me joy but ones that I know are benefiting me inside and out. Baking is on the top of my self love list because not only do I really enjoy how much it inspires me to be creative, I am rewarded with the delicious results so it’s a win win. Especially for Valentine’s Day, it’s a way to spread love if I end up sharing them with others and a form of self love if I keep all the treats for myself.

A couple desserts I made last year around this time included some sort of dark chocolate and peanut butter of course because that is the superior combo - that statement is not up for debate. Layered chocolate peanut butter cups with homemade raspberry jam were my FAV and I can’t wait to make them again this week. Another hit last year was stovetop popcorn covered in melted dark chocolate and flakes of sea salt. I am drooling just thinking about it because the salty and sweet combo is so ridiculously delicious.

I find that this is a form of self love because I could easily run to the store and buy a cheap bag of heart shaped processed candies loaded with oils, sugars, and who knows what else, but knowing what I put into each dessert I make is rewarding to me and my health.

For those who don’t like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen and typically opt for something easy and on the go, this next paragraph is for you.
