Fall Immune Boosters

Recently I have fallen off my daily routine of supplements, immune boosters, basically all things that I know are good for me and I am definitely feeling the repercussions. Even though we might not notice the differences until a month, three months, or even longer after taking supplements consistently, you eventually start to pick up on little things that you weren’t noticing before.

The biggest differences I have noticed recently from slacking are how much my mood fluctuates, lack of motivation, and foggy brain function. Between Lion’s Mane mushroom, B12, Iodine, collagen peptides, and D3 drops that I was taking before, I was feeling pretty good and had no complaints until I slowly fell off the wagon. With the colder weather coming in and Covid-19 still on the rise, it’s time for me to get back to my routine and daily supplements & share how beneficial my key supplements are.

Chaga.jpg

The first immune boosting supplement I want to focus on taking daily is Chaga mushroom elixir. Chaga mushroom is known for its powerful immune boosting properties, fighting inflammation, and also anti-aging properties so who doesn’t want that? The mushroom elixir is in powder form so I like to add it to my coffee in the morning because it dissolves easily with no strong flavor. I usually alternate between Lion’s Mane and Chaga but I definitely want to focus on amping up my immune system this month.

Next on the line up is Vitamin D3, also known as the “Sunshine Vitamin” which is crucial during this time of the year to help with mood and energy. When the weather is gloomy and the sun is only out for a short period of time, I need everything I can to boost my mood and get through the day. D3 can also reduce your risk of developing life threatening diseases and although there isn’t enough evidence to connect this vitamin to the prevention of CoronaVirus, there have been studies that showcase the connection of Covid cases linked to Vitamin D3 deficiency so throwing that in the mix is beneficial.

The supplement I missed the most was Collagen Peptides mainly because the benefits I experienced while adding that into my routine were so visible from nail growth, to hair growth, and even glowing skin, I am so ready to experience those benefits again. Since collagen peptides are flavorless and dissolvable I typically add them into my coffee or afternoon smoothie so I don’t forget later on in the day.

Did Someone Say Waffles!?

Our highly anticipated new fall item is officially here and I am SO excited! If you aren’t jumping for joy yet then wait until you hear what it is and I guarantee you’ll be just as pumped as I am. Vegan, gluten free, soy free, refined sugar free WAFFLES!!

Waffles.jpg

Colder weather is approaching quickly so Fit Bar wanted to offer some food options that will warm you up but still align with our nutrition vision. Our waffles are so much more than just breakfast food because we pack all unrefined ingredients into the recipe that also carry benefits and will leave you feeling fueled and satisfied. I made these waffles so many times at home my waffle iron was too worn out and stopped working, needless to say I will be having these at work often. My favorite part about this hot new item is how customizable they are since you can pretty much throw whatever fruits and toppings on that you want. We are offering four different types of these waffles on the menu to hopefully satisfy everyone’s want and needs, from chocolate to peanut butter and jelly and even acai. That’s right Fit Bar is serving up acai and waffle sandwiches!! Before I jump into those because I know you are all dying to know exactly what goes on an acai waffle sandwich, let’s cover the basics.

Acaí Cream Sammie

Acaí Cream Sammie

Waffle toppings include the Traditional, PP&J, Loco-Cocoa, and last but not least Acaí Cream Sammie. Our waffles reflect our bowls based off of the toppings so if you’re a bowl lover don’t worry, you’ll still get the familiar fruits on top. All waffles besides the sandwich are four pieces which equals one full waffle and comes with 100% real maple syrup on the side. The Traditional is topped with strawberries, blueberries, and vanilla powder so it’s a classic combination that everyone will love. Peanut butter fans, the PP&J waffle was made for you and happens to be my personal favorite! Identical to our toast, this one comes with peanut butter, homemade pitaya jam, bananas, and chia seeds so basically a next level peanut butter and jelly sandwich but a million times more satisfying. On the sweeter side maybe for a guilt free dessert or those who like a sweet and feeling breakfast, the Loco Cocoa waffle is packed with cacao nibs, coconut shreds, and bananas. I love this one because of all the crunchy tops that pair well with the soft bananas and waffle. Last but not least, the ACAI CREAM SAMMIE which is basically all of your dreams come true. Served in a bowl with a spoon because this waffle sandwich is jam packed with your choice of honey or agave drizzled on both sides, a scoop of acaí in the middle, and topped with a scoop of peanut butter. As always you can customize this item by adding your favorite fruits or superfood toppings to complete the waffle sandwich.

We are SO excited to officially be offering these healthy and delicious waffles at all Fit Bar cafes so stop by and show some love! Don’t forget to take a picture for the “gram” and tag @fitbarcafe to be featured on our Instagram page ♥

Good Reads

I’d like to think that I am interested in books other than romantic and murder mystery fiction novels but the truth is, I’m not so much. One of my goals this past year has been to try and read 10 minutes of an educational, self help, or any non-fiction book that teaches me something and gets my thoughts flowing and truthfully, it has been a bit of a challenge. Some days I’m invested and taking in all of the knowledge and other days I am two minutes in and don’t want to read another word so it’s important for me to find books that I will truly take something from even, if it’s just a couple lessons.

The Happiness Project

by Gretchen Rubin…

was one of the first “self-help” books I purchased and it sat on my bookshelf untouched for over a year before I gave it a chance… I am so glad I picked it back up. The author reflects on all of the changes she made in order to find her happiness and decluttering the aspects in life that weren’t fulfilling her which I think we could all benefit from. Everyone deals with the good, the bad, and the ugly but it is really up to ourselves to decide what we let impact and affect us so I do encourage you to read this book, or at the least take a step back and find what truly makes you happy and let go of the things that are weighing you down. I refer to this book a lot, especially when I am stressed or feeling down because it kind of brings me back to life and creates more positive thoughts. Being active, eating healthy, and time with friends and family, are my main priorities that bring me joy so I choose to make time for those even when my schedule is hectic. One of my happy highlights this week that wasn’t extravagant but still just as important was making dinner, it was a recipe that I was looking forward to trying and it turned out even better than expected. Even the things that we think are small and invaluable can be part of your “Happiness Project” which is also a great reminded to enjoy the little things.

Genius Foods.jpg

Besides self-help books, health and wellness focused books pique my interest, specifically when they are written by Max Lugavere or Dr. Mark Hyman. Genius Food’s and The Genius Life by Max Lugavere are both such great educational reads and the best part is the amount of so scientific knowledge that you can’t help but dive deeper into all of the subjects discussed. It will honestly make you question all of your decisions and how well you are treating your body. Not only does he give you a list of the foods you should include in your diet, he includes all of the background information on those foods and WHY you should eat them for example, the vitamins and nutrients that they pack, how they affect your body and everyday life, and even extend it. Whether you are just getting started in the nutrition field or are years and years deep into, both of these books are an amazing read and will you leave you with a lifetime of knowledge.

Like I have stated in the past, I believe that our emotions/mental health and nutrition go hand and hand so reading self help books and educating ourselves on what to fuel our bodies with is the perfect combination. On top of that I do like to throw in a fiction read for fun because I can’t help but get sucked into the made up novels, it’s like a little escape from reality. We are always looking to expand our knowledge and educate our crew on the ins and outs of mindset, nutrition, and movement so if you have any book suggestions of any genre, send them our way!!
