As consumers, we should be conscious of reading labels and ingredients to have an understanding of exactly we are surrounding ourselves with. This helps us to understand what it is we need and why rather than just purchasing things that truly do not give us benefits and ultimately are dissatisfying and might I say, a waste of money.
It goes without saying that at the Fit Bar, we take pride in our ingredients because we value how we nourish our bodies and strive to encourage our communities to do the same! There is a reason why we are a “superfood” cafe; our menu has nutritionist crafted- nutrient rich options that cater to your overall health and well-being.
What if I told you superfoods aren’t just for eating and have incredible topical benefits? No, I’m not saying you should order a Loco Cacao specifically to rub it on your face or put your Midnight Eclipse in your hair. However, I am encouraging you to look twice at your topical products and read those ingredients.
Just like many food options, some topical products are full of unnecessary fillers and ingredients we do not know to pronounce much less ever learned in a chemistry class. So since we are taking the time to read ingredients in our meals, lets pause before we purchase the face cream that Kim Kardashian swears to be her end all be all and reflect on the ingredients.
As a superfood enthusiast, I find myself fascinated by blends of ingredients and how it makes me feel when I eat them on a daily basis and let me tell you, you feel an immediate difference (first things I personally noticed were less bloating, feeling fuller longer/more satisfied after meals, less acne, and more regular poops-yup I said it). Since my insides felt amazing, I thought to stop and start reading up on ingredients in products and looking toward products with the little green leaf.
Here is a breakdown of brands and products that I fell in love with and have the same ingredients as what we have in Fit Bar:
Youth to the People
Known as the “Superfood of Skincare”- chalk full of ethically sourced, nutrient dense ingredients that we also just so happen to serve at the Fit Bar! I recommend logging into their website and taking their 15 minute skincare assessment.
All of their products are amazing however since I started using the Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil I have not gone a DAY without it! Your skin feels so hydrated and glows brighter than the stars on a clear sky without feeling or appearing oily or greasy. Acai isn’t justy delicious and has amazing health properties when you eat it; this antioxidant rich berry fights the free radicals which delays signs of aging and gives skin a youthful glow. The goji berry (found on our famous Admiral and Thrive) is full of amino acids that help smooth the skin's appearance, tone and color.
2. Origins
Another clean beauty brand that has a good bang for your buck price point and incredible quality ingredients!
I would put all my cards in saying that the Mega-Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion is hands down the best moisturizer for ANY skin type. This mushroom filled cream is watery, lightweight, JAM-PACKED with hydration, and reduces redness like it was never there! The Fit Bar Crew preaches the importance of reishi mushroom in helping to destress and release anxiety and Chaga mushroom to help boost immunity. This cream has both ingredients to topically soothe the skin and release tension that causes redness and stressed complections.
3. Kopari
Kopari’s biggest ingredient in all of their products is the beloved coconut. At the Fit Bar we use endless coconut shreds, electrolyte full coconut water, and potassium rich coconut milk. Coconuts are nutrient dense full of good fats, potassium, manganese and so much more!
The Kopari deodorant is a leader in clean deodorants, free from aluminum and ingredients no one can pronounce. This product is infused with activated charcoal (also found in our heavenly midnight eclipse) to help soothe and detoxify the pits while keeping you feeling and smelling fresh!
*pro tip, when switching to ANY natural deodorant be sure to do a pit mask with aztech clay and apple cider vinegar to draw out any built up minerals and bacteria so the natural deodorant reacts with your own bodies chemistry-otherwise you will be creating more build-up and negating the purpose of using a natural deodorant.
4. Dr. Roebuck’s
This Aussie brand caters to all skin types with super basic ingredients with super beneficial properties! Their products don’t only help with skin treatments but also cater to skin maintenance.
The Down Under Collagen Boosting Eye Treatment is full of collegian (which can also be added to your Fit Bar coffee’s, smoothies, and bowls for a boost of gut health, hair, skin, nail and joint support) and targets directly to the under eye area to help firm while the caffeine and arnica calms, depuffs, and brightens. It is also hyaluronic acid rich to help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while preventing them as well! As they say, “maintenance is better than getting a new transmission.”
5. Briogeo
This plant based hair brand has my favorite “everyone” shampoo-meaning it will do its job for all hair types- the Be Gentle Be Kind -green juice inspired shampoo and conditioner. This duo is a lifesaver for hair that needs a little extra gentle love (perfect for quarantine hair dye disaster hair). The two main ingredients are matcha and apple. Matcha is an antioxidant powerhouse, with vitamin c and natural caffeine (and tastes delicious with milkadamia) which helps to strengthen and bring vibrancy to dry/dull hair. Nutrient rich apples (don’t just sweeten your Fit Bar Juices) but give a punch of hydration to your locks!
