A Walk a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

With sunshine and warm weather comes happiness and positivity, or so you are taught pretty much from the moment you can talk and read. When I think of the sun I think of a little smiley face in the center radiating JOY and HAPPINESS, and now that I am older, seeing sunny and 75 on the weather app I get the same feeling. The little sunshine icon brings instant gratification because that means no rain and us Seattleites know that is very rare. Second, it musters up motivation to get outside and soak in Vitamin D knowing that it is crucial for mood and energy. Happiness and positivity is what I expect to be feeling but lately my emotions are experiencing pressure and my headspace has been negative.

These feelings are stemming from my lack of motivation in all aspects of my life. Maybe it’s from trying to get back on track from my vacations but I just can’t seem to get a handle on much. Before these past two weeks I was going to the gym five days a week, taking walks after work, eating whole foods, hydrating, and staying ahead of my homework, but all of that has suddenly fallen through. Not to the point of no return, but enough to make me feel like my head is barely above water. So I think I am writing this blog to keep myself accountable with getting back on track and finding that motivation again. MOTIVATION is not something that appears out of thin air, you won’t always have it but once you accept that, is when you learn to push through those negative feelings and seek the positive ones.

Instead of throwing myself into everything full speed again, I am starting slow and acknowledging that small tasks will go a long way. I will say that my schoolwork has not taken that big of a hit in that I have been keeping up with assignments, but as far as where I want to be in the future, there is more I know I could be doing. My goal is to set aside specific times to work on assignments, study for quizzes, and prepare for future semesters to avoid last minute stress and procrastination. If I have any advice for people that are struggling with the same issues involving school, work, or tasks in general, it is that a PLANNER will be your best friend. My planner is the best thing that has happened to me because I can use it to write in assignments due for the week, to-do lists, grocery lists, or tasks I need to complete at home. It holds me accountable and let’s be honest, nothing is more satisfying than crossing tasks off a list.
As I mentioned, my workouts and exercise regimen have taken a hit because quite frankly, the gym is the last place I want to be right now. Instead of forcing myself to complete an average gym workout, I am going to get back to my daily walks, even if they are just 15 minutes. A little movement goes a long way and I know the feeling I will have if I get it done. One accomplishment leads to another and who knows, it may spark my love for the gym again, but until then I will get my exercise elsewhere. I also know that Vitamin D deficiency leads to fatigue, tiredness, and in severe cases depression, which is even more of a motivation to get outside at some point during the day. Being that I am not the only one who is feeling this way (at least that is what I am telling myself), I am always seeking advice from friends and family, sometimes even strangers to see what helps others when they are in a funk.

Last but definitely not least and actually the most important aspect of our lives, NUTRITION, mine is in need of some serious TLC. It is so strange to me that given I am a certified nutrition coach and would consider myself pretty in tune with what foods my body responds best to including my mental and physical health, I am still choosing to indulge (too often) in what I would consider to be on the lower quality end. I think this goes to show that everyone struggles no matter what and I have learned that it is not about being perfect all the time, but how you adapt and move forward. After many vacation meals and quick dinners because the thought of cooking dinner sounded like the ultimate chore, I am making it a priority to meal prep vegetables in my favorite way, oven roasted, and making sure I have a lean protein source on hand, along with healthy fats and carbs that I can pair them with. This takes the pressure off of the dreaded question “what am I going to have for dinner?” because having everything pre prepped makes it easy to pair a quick meal, with all of the necessary nutrients. Energy levels and mood changes are fueled by your microbiome, known as your gut, which means that your intake including supplements, liquids, and foods fuel your gut meaning that they are ALL connected. Knowing this information and actually practicing it are two different things, which like I said is what I have been struggling with. Indulging in treats and processed foods is completely okay in moderation, as long as essential nutrients are your main priority along with listening to your body in how it reacts. Let your intuitions and microbiome tell you how you feel and use those feelings to make the most beneficial decisions for your health and overall wellbeing.

I mentioned that this blog is to keep me accountable and something verbal to look back and remind myself it is okay to lack motivation. Going through these feelings is an amazing lesson learned, that it is absolutely OKAY to feel this way, it is okay to not feel 100% all of the time. I hope that anyone reading this can benefit from some if not all of this information and use it as a guide on their health and wellness journey. I, said it.

LESS IS TRULY, MORE.

Have you found yourself at a plateau? Working out, eating right, reading more, walking, staying hydrated, fasting, working, etc…But not seeing the results you seek?

Well we know, first-hand, what burn-out looks like… as working days and nights, doubles often, eating when we could, sleeping 5-6 hours, doing it all… but at what cost.

I begin to ask myself were we doing too much?

Was the stress adding-to or aiding my body?

And was having the ability to do it all, really a strength, or was there more strength offered in the ability to allow myself to recover, restore, and go in-ward to find my calm and reset button?

We are firm believers in Mindset, Nutrition, and Movement… But also, even more important, we believe encompassing a lifestyle that supports, fuels, and balances us in all forms, is what truly matters.

To find this balance, we often fill up our cups, our to-do lists get longer, and we think, “more goals, equals more progress,” in turn, equating to (more) success.

That may be true for a select few, but most of us need much less to create balance, stay focused, and see growth in our lives.

And let’s be honest, we don’t need to goal-chase or goal-seek (yes, I said it…breathe, it’s ok… we still get sh*t done), instead we need to set standards for the lifestyle we want to live and create the habits within ourselves to achieve those standards, daily.

Will goals arise from the standards we set, sure.

Will you have things you want to achieve or complete, yes; but, understanding that it is not the goal, but that of the habits and the journey we build before and after achieving it, that keeps us going and growing.

Here are my top 4 habits I do daily to reinforce the standards I need to create balance, stay focused, and get results, all while doing less!

  1. Morning Routine- KEEP IT SIMPLE

Morning routine.png

2. Schedule- SET A PLAN (BUT REMAIN ADAPTABLE)

Morning routine (1).png

3. Be Intentional- ALL THINGS HAVE PURPOSE

Morning routine (2).png

When we remind ourselves to Be Intentional, even in the struggles, we gain perspective, growth, and wisdom.

As we reduce our daily tasks and focus on not only what is important to us physically, but emotionally, spiritually, and creatively, we leave room to restore and execute the obstacles in front of us, no matter their scale or size.

4. Sleep- RECOVER & RESTORE TO REBUILD

Morning routine (3).png

And of course, sleep… as it is the foundation of our recovery and just as it is important to start our day with intention, we must end it with intention and rest.

I limit my screen time at night, incorporate a sleep meditation, and drink a relaxing reishi tea to help restore and offer calm to my evening.

We know that creating balance can be a challenge! But, trust… it is one worth taking. Making changes and seeing results in our inner and outer world(s) can often begin by simplifying our lives, and doing LESS.

Daily Specials

Fit Bar started out on a mission to offer the most nutrient dense and appealing Acai Bowls and Smoothies out there, steering clear of added sugars and fillers, and we did just that.

Organic ingredients, locally sourced produce when possible, and not to mention picture worthy, our bowls are truly the best on the market and we love how much you all love them!

Since the start of this mission five and a half years ago, Fit Bar has expanded into new areas of superfoods and supplements that I am sure seemed so out of touch, but quickly became reality.

We are always looking to grow and explore the best ingredients and items on the market, so with that our menu has expanded and includes all things from coffee, specialty drinks, to vegan waffles, sweet and savory toast options, and dietary supplements.

We have so much health and wellness to offer that we had to brainstorm a way to showcase all of our products to intrigue our customers and get them to step out of their typical Acai comfort zone.

We call these our DAILY SPECIALS!

Four out of seven days of the week we are offering different specials, each day spotlighting a menu item or supplement.

Our weekend special varies depending on any brand new items we have in store or if we have made any recent changes that we would love for our customers to try out.

These daily specials revolve around our mission of fueling our bodies with the best superfoods, so we are offering 10% in various ways throughout the week, that way YOU all can see for yourself just how good our products will make you feel.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday are the days of our specials so if you are wanting to venture out, these are your days to do so!

Four Sigmatic.jpg

MUSHROOM MONDAY, happens to be my favorite day and also where I think you will get the most bang for your buck.

Buy any single packet or full box of any Four Sigmatic product, and get 10% your ENTIRE Fit Bar purchase.

Our Four Sigmatic mushroom elixirs, coffees, and cacao mixes are the perfect addition to your morning routine between caffeine, energy, immune boosting, and calming properties you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Monday’s are meant to be a fresh start so it is up to you how you spend your day including what you put into your body and how you feel.

If you are unfamiliar with medicinal mushrooms let me give you a little rundown because I know I was a little taken aback by a mushroom supplement because I was only familiar with the mushrooms that were in my salads or stir fry’s.

Going back to the properties listed above, mushroom elixirs offer energy, immune support, focus, and relaxation in an extracted then powdered form that is easily dissolvable.

My go to is one packet of Lion’s Mane elixir in my coffee because not only is the mushroom tasteless, but who doesn’t need extra help focusing at the beginning of the day?

Another great Four Sigmatic product I love are the mushroom coffees, also dissolvable but provide the classic coffee flavor and caffeine without a crash.

Monday’s are the perfect day to give these a go because even the purchase of a single packet of elixir or mushroom coffee will get you 10% your entire Fit Bar purchase.

Waffle Sammie

Waffle Sammie

PP&J, Traditional, Loco Coco (In Order Left to Right)

Another 10% deal happens to be in the middle of the week for those of you who may need a little hump day boost to get you through the rest of your week.

Wednesday is the perfect day to try out our plant-based, gluten free, and refined sugar free WAFFLES at a discounted price.

Our variety of options include the Traditional waffle which is blueberries, strawberries, and vanilla powder is a great option for those who want something simple yet delicious.

Our PP&J option includes sliced bananas, peanut butter, home-made pitaya jam, and a sprinkle of chia seeds, this one is more filling and provides loads of healthy fats and fiber.

The Loco Cocoa waffle is topped with sliced bananas, coconut shreds, and cacao nibs for a rich and crunchy combo that you can’t go wrong with.

They are available as a full order or ½ order and served with your choice of 100% maple syrup, honey, agave, or monkfruit maple syrup (upcharge).

Also if you are not sold yet on the descriptions of our waffles or the fact that they are 10% on Wednesday, maybe the half order will reel you in.

The half order is available for all topping choices but is less filling and pairs well with a mini bowl or smoothie for a variety of textures and flavors on the days that you can’t seem to make up your mind.

Next up for our daily specials happens to include ALL drinks, including smoothies, coffee drinks, specialty drinks, you name it (and drink it), it’s 10% off on THIRSTY THURSDAYS.

This special is definitely a solid opportunity for money well spent because it includes over half of our menu so you really can’t go wrong with this deal.

Did I mention the discount goes towards any size too?

Kids size, micro, and macro sized smoothies, eight, 12, and 16 ounce sized coffees, and our 12oz specialty drinks are ALL included in Thirsty Thursday so whether you are starving or just need a little snack, we gotcha covered!

Specialty drinks are some of my favorite items on the menu because some have caffeine, some don’t but they ALL have a crazy amount of benefits that your body will love and need to get you through one last day until the weekend.

Just a little pro tip, our Mexican Mocha is one of the best things on the menu and of course, is included in the daily special so if I were you, I would hurry over to one our cafes and get yourself one.

As if these daily specials aren’t enough, we offer a rotating deal over the weekend that typically includes a sale on our monthly coffee that we carry in the cafes.

Our coffee is always organic AND local which is already a plus, so offering an additional 20% your entire Fit Bar order with the purchase of a bag of coffee, is the ultimate SAVE BIG SUNDAY.

Our mission has always been to spread the word on health, so offering these discounts is a way to invite the community in and educate those on the power of our NUTRITIOUS and DELICIOUS products.

Come celebrate the small things during the week and on the weekends at your favorite health conscious cafe!
