Putting Your Health First

It is crucial for our health and sanity that we find light or make our own during this dark time. It is way too easy to stress and overthink about the things we cannot control. I know that I am doing my best to keep positive and use this time to be creative. I have a couple at home remedies that I absolutely love and want to share that you can experiment with while you’re trapped inside. Okay “trapped inside” might be a little over dramatic and we all have our own opinions regarding the situation but in all seriousness it is important to be aware of your surroundings and make smart decisions to protect not only yourself but others. A little piece of advice for all of you is that hoarding toilet paper is not going to solve the world's problems, shocking I know. Do whatever you need to do to put your mind at ease but please think about other people and more appropriate solutions.

Keeping your immune system up should be top priority pretty much all the time but especially right now and there are plenty of ways you can do that while being home. Moving your body will get those endorphins going and knock your stress levels down which if you didn’t know, stress suppresses our body’s ability to fight off infections. Whether it’s an at home bodyweight workout, stretching, or my favorite - a walk outside in the fresh air, get moving! As much as we all hate it, apple cider vinegar has some amazing benefits that include killing harmful bacteria and is a great addition to your everyday routine. You can find one of my favorite immune boosting drinks to sip on in the morning on an empty stomach or as a soothing bed time drink down below. Lastly, the most important yet overlooked tip I can give you for staying healthy is DRINK WATER. Sounds simple but for some reason is easily forgotten and when you’re dehydrated your body is more fragile and susceptible to illness. Give these recommendations a try and let us know how they work for you!

Sending positive energy and wishing you all good health as we embark on this crazy and unknown journey together!

Lion’s Mane and It’s Benefits

angelo brewing-5.png

If you’re like me and work early mornings, you know that waking up at the crack of dawn never gets easier. I’ve found that creating a morning routine helps to motivate and set me up for a successful and productive day. My morning routine consists of things that I go to bed looking  forward to like reading a self help book, stretching, and most importantly a quality cup of coffee. Although black coffee is amazing and has benefits on it’s own, I’ve found that adding Lion’s Mane Elixir gives me that extra boost I need in the morning. I’ve been including this into my everyday routine for about a year now and not only has it kept my immune system strong, it’s mane (see what I did there) benefit of supporting memory and focus has kept me on track with being productive and focused which is crucial in the morning while at work. This medicinal mushroom has been clinically studied and shown to enhance cognitive function which I know we all could use.

Below is my favorite way to make a soothing cup of coffee with all the benefits!

Brain Boosting Coffee

8-12oz organic coffee

A dash of non-dairy milk/creamer (recommend oat for creaminess)

1 serving of Lion’s Mane Mushroom Elixir

*Pro tip: Add this all too a blender for a little extra froth and creaminess!

You can find Lion’s Mane Elixir along with other medicinal mushrooms at all of our Fit Bar Superfood Cafe Locations! Add this mushroom to one of our specialty drinks or a classic drip coffee to enhance your daily dose of caffeine, or add it to a smoothie or Acai bowl for that extra boost!

D3+K2 Why It's Worth It!

Untitled design-2.png

Supplements are a hot topic these days and it’s hard to know what to take and who to trust when looking into them. For me, trying to cram 50 supplements and vitamins into my daily routine caused more harm than good. I found it helpful to go back to the basics and really listen to my body before deciding which supplements to invest in. Vitamin D was high on my list since I live in Seattle and I see the sun for about 1 hour a week, AT MOST. Welcome to the PNW where we hold records for the most days of rain in a month span. I did some research and not only does being deficient in Vitamin D affect your mood and increase depression, it can also increase your risk of heart diseases, autoimmunity, and bone pain. Even those in the states that see the sun like California should consider implementing Vitamin D into their routine since more than 75% of the United States are deficient.

Vitamin D3+K2 is sold at all of our Fit Bar cafes located in Renton and West Seattle in Washington, and Sunset Beach, Sierra Madre, and Pasadena in California. Swing by to grab one while you wait for Spring and the sun to make an appearance. Feel free to ask our crew any health and wellness questions you may have!!
